SOFT

Guest curated by Vic Barquin and myself, SOFT featured prints and textiles displayed within a working print shop—the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. It diverged from previous print-on-paper exhibits and featured artists who reconsider the traditions and boundaries of the medium. Here, the term soft was used as both an experience of fabric against skin and a quality of emotional intelligence. Soft can be used to describe the marriage of media coming together in one piece. This joint textile and print exhibition invited comparison between different modes of making and stressed the importance of combining various materials, dimensions, and techniques into one’s practice. Featuring artwork by Meg Roberts Arsenovic, Bukola Koiki, Melissa Leandro, Nico Del Rio, Sonnenzimmer (Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi), Fraser Taylor, Cassie Tompkins, and Chris Williford.
